As you walk along the streets of Shanghai, you often unexpectedly encounter talented masters hidden in the ordinary neighborhoods. Today, I met such a remarkable person right outside Shanghai Xinguang Photo Studio at No. 1650 Middle Huaihai Road.

In front of the studio’s display window, a master in actor-like attire was pacing back and forth. At first, I thought a film or TV scene was being shot, but when I looked around, I saw no filming equipment or crew members, which left me somewhat puzzled.

After striking up a conversation, I realized I was already familiar with this photo studio. Having noticed its recent renovation, I had assumed it had changed its business, only to find it had simply added new services. “We are partners. I provide a collection of themed costumes for customers to choose from when taking photos.”

His explanation cleared up my confusion. To my greater surprise, this seemingly casual master was none other than Lü Fang, a highly renowned expert in Shanghai’s tailoring industry. His story has been featured multiple times on CCTV News, local Shanghai TV stations, as well as online platforms and newspapers, making him widely known.

He is both a skilled craftsman and a savvy businessman. Constantly innovating and perfecting his craft in his field, he blends business with art, breathing new life into the traditional trade.
